AI-CHATBOT FOR LIBRARIES AND INSTITUTIONS
– PROMPTING AND CONVERSATIONS. PART II.
LANGUAGE: ENGLISH
DURATION: 1 hour + Q&A
TYPE: Free of charge
On the 20th and 21st of November, we will again hold a free webinar on AI. The upcoming webinar will focus on how to provide both informative and helpful conversations with AI-Chatbots in libraries and institutions.
Topics are:
- Good prompting: How do I explain to the bot what it is supposed to say?
- Metrics: How do I even know what a good chat is?
- Hallucination: What if the bot is talking nonsense?
- Talking about images or films: the multimodal bot.
- Can the bot also speak Farsi, Japanese and Spanish? At the same time?
We will show a live demo of conversations that AI can do (and classical Search cannot). These are some examples that users of our library partners have with the bot:
Patron Question: “I enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird.” Can you suggest similar books?”
Follow-up: “Do you have more recommendations on racial injustice?”
Patron Question: “Can you suggest books or films which have influenced the art of Rebecca Horn?”
Follow-up: “Can you list these works in order of their publication date?”
Patron Question (in English): “Do you have books on Islamic art history?”
Follow-up (in Arabic): “هل لديك كتب عن الفنون الإسلامية التقليدية؟”
Patron Question: “Can you recommend books on different photography techniques?”
Follow-up: “Organize this in a table with technique, author, and publication year.”
All these conversations will be held live during the webinar. We will explain the answers by the AI and how to achieve them.
The webinar will again be moderated by Tilman Scheel, Managing Director, AboutSomethinK – ASK –

AI-CHATBOT FOR LIBRARIES AND INSTITUTIONS
– CONCEPTS AND TERMINOLOGY. PART I.
LANGUAGE: ENGLISH
DURATION: 1 hour + Q&A
TYPE: Free of charge
This webinar will explain the concepts and the terminology defining AI. We will also provide practical examples and a live demo on how these concepts impact our everyday work with our AI Chatbot for libraries.
When the internet arrived, we had to understand a whole new set of words and concepts. “Email”, “WLAN”, “Bluetooth”, etc. have become household terms. It is easily forgotten that they had to be learned. Until we know about “LLM”, “Tokens” or “RAG” we will have no real understanding of how to think about and how to use AI. We will lift the veil.
After this webinar you will be able to answer these questions:
- What is RAG and will it make searching for books and other media more reliable?
- What is a token and what does it cost?
- Is “open source” really open source?
- Why do we need a Vector Database for our metadata? What is a vector anyway?
- Are there metrics for a good AI – conversation?
- Why is an AI hallucinating? Does it matter?
With AboutSomethinK – ASK – we are operating the world’s first AI Chatbot for library collections. We have launched the chatbot for the libraries of Berlin (voebb.de) and will be launching many more, soon. For more than a year now, AI has become our everyday work. Still, AI is developing at an incredible speed and we have to keep learning every day. It’s fun. Participate!

TYPE: Free of charge
A webinar on the first experiences we made running Europe’s first AI Chatbot for the Association of Public Libraries in Berlin (VÖBB).
On 28th May 2024 we have launched the first AI-Chatbot in Europe for public libraries. Its goal is to complement traditional search, allowing patrons to chat about ebooks, films, music, etc.
In this webinar we explain why the Berlin libraries made their approx. 4 Mio media available using an AI chatbot. We provide provide real data and practical experience on:
- User response to chatting about library collections
- Working with diverse, inconsistent and incomplete data
- Ownership of data and what to do about it?
- Prompting your chatbot for library use
- Pricing: on the cost for infrastructure, customization and tokens
- A word on ethics and data protection
Speakers:
Moritz Mutter, Head of Digital, VÖBB Service Center, Association of Public Libraries in Berlin
Tilman Scheel, CEO, AboutSomethinK
You will find our Chatbot on the website of Berlin libraries voebb.de.
You can click on the chat icon in the bottom right corner of any page on the website to start a conversation about all available media in library collections. You can ask the bot to speak your language.
We are happy for your feedback. As the bot is the first of its kind, there is still a lot to learn!

AI IN LIBRARIES AND PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS
LANGUAGE: GERMAN
DURATION: 1 hour + Q&A
TYPE: Free of charge
Dear Library Professionals,
On 9 November 2023 at 15:00 (CET) we are hosting a webinar on the use of Artificial Intelligence in libraries, archives and public institutions.
As a provider of VoD services for the Association of Public Libraries of Berlin (VÖBB), we already use ChatGPT to index our content.
On 9 November, we would like to give a general introduction to the topic of AI for libraries to anyone interested. We will explain how ChatGPT and similar Large Language Models (LLMs) work, we will explain terms like AI and generative AI and we will show what the practical applications of these technologies are. Then we will discuss how libraries can use this new technology. Finally, but only briefly, we will present our project AboutSomethinK or ASK live, i.e. our AI chatbot for public or academic libraries and archives.
You are of course welcome to ask any questions about AI and ChatGPT; just ASK!
