THE ASSOCIATION OF PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN BERLIN (VÖBB)
„Users will interact with content differently with AI. We want to offer them the most fitting content possible.”
This sentence sums up the motivation behind the decision of the Association of Public Libraries in Berlin (VÖBB) to embark on the AI-Chatbot journey with AboutSomethinK.
Using a traditional Search function, users do have a specific idea of what they are looking for. They type in a string of words and look if any of the results fit. With a bot, you chat. You can just say “I am bored” and be inspired by what the AI suggests. You can ask about topics and see what the AI comes up with.
In short, the AI comes close to the experience of standing in front of a large bookshelf, browsing through the titles and being inspired by what is in front of you. This is the experience we wanted to recreate with ASK for VÖBB.
AVA LIBRARY
The VoD Service Provider for libraries and public institutions „AVA“ has a collection of more than 1000 arthouse films of all genres: feature films, shorts and documentaries.
AVA had realised that the “Search” function is rarely used. The main way of discovering films was clicking on the films featured on the frontpage. The number of films on the frontpage, however, is limited.
With the ASK-bot, AVA highlights more and other films than the films suggested by the AVA curators. In chatting with ASK, users are now able to find films that specifically match their interests.
